$3 Billion Deal will supply 18 armed drones to the middle eastern nation.
The State Department formally announced on Friday that it would be planning to sell roughly $2.9 billion worth of militarized drones to the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The deal would send 18 armed drones to the middle eastern nation and would mark the first such export since the Trump Administration put a hold on sending arms.
The U.S. Senate Foreign Relations and House of Representatives Foreign Affairs committees have the authority to block this sale if they deem it to be a security risk to the United States. Members of both committees have criticized the UAE for human rights abuses in the ongoing conflict in Yemen. The State Department also approved selling F-35 jets to the UAE last week.
